What drives us?

In a time of uncertainty, war, global warming, pandemics, biodiversity loss, pollution and rampant profiteering, we are all searching for meaning and heart in this world.

Companies that wrap sustainability around their products and services like pretty wrapping paper are certainly not offering us what we are longing for.

Never before has there been so much lying when it comes to sustainability. Today, sustainability is often used to maximize sales targets and profits. Meaning and heart are not accepted as ends in themselves and must be subordinated to profitability targets.

But perhaps we realize the need for passion, purpose, heart and conviction when we see the sad eyes of the orangutan baby growing into a future where 80% of Borneo’s habitat has been lost in the last 20 years due to deforestation and palm oil plantations.

No amount of money in the world can alleviate the suffering and ensure the survival of this young orangutan baby in the short term. We clearly recognize the same challenge for the future of our children.

What drives us? Sustainability

It is certainly a small contribution if we recycle thousands of fish food bags and cement sacks and thus ensure that they are not incinerated or end up in our rivers and oceans. Perhaps the impact is not the greatest when we reuse container straps from German deep-sea ports that should actually be destroyed in waste incineration plants.

Nor will we be able to change the overall picture if we give file folders a second life by making postcards, spiral notepads and kitchen magnets.

But these are small steps in the right direction to protect our natural environment and reduce pollution. However, we are convinced that we are setting an example for many companies. Precisely because we pay our approximately 600 craftspeople in Cambodia a fair wage and have them work under fair conditions, and this is regularly monitored by the World Fair Trade Organization.

Such cooperation reflects our conviction that we must help the poorest people in the world and the disadvantaged with passion and heart. Even if we could produce 50% cheaper in China, we stick to our business model, because heart and passion are always our top priority. The fact that this results in innovative, unique accessories that offer clear benefits for end consumers, for example through the lightness and durability of the materials, makes our actions even more beautiful.

In this respect, we are a small but important example of how companies today are seriously supporting people with heart and passion and protecting our nature. To be really successful in this, we need lots of fans, supporters and enthusiastic customers who see that sustainability and great products are not a contradiction in terms.
