FAQ: Heart for people. Heart for the environment. Heart for you.
1. what makes you different from other sustainable brands?
We are true pioneers – not because we say so, but because we have been living it for over 17 years.
Most of our bags are made in workshops in Cambodia – certified by the renowned World Fair Trade Organization– where over 600 people work, many of them with disabilities.
We are an official partner of the UN Ocean Decade and an official endorser of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, together with companies such as Unilever, Henkel, LEGO and Mars.
2. what does “Heart for people. Heart for the environment. Heart for you”?
That is our inner compass.
A heart for people: Cooperation with Lebenshilfe Remscheid
and inclusion workshops in Cambodia.
Heart for the environment: upcycling plastic, PET and industrial waste.
Heart for you: honest products,
well thought out, functional and stylish.
3. what really happens with my purchase?
You support a genuine circular economy.
For example, together with Remondis, we rescue tons of container tension belts in the Port of Hamburg that would otherwise be incinerated – and turn them into stylish bags with a history.
4. what is oceanbound plastic – and does it really help?
Oceanbound plastic is plastic that is collected within 50 km of the coast – before it reaches the sea.
Our materials come from Thailand, for example, organized by Plastic Bank.
This creates a double impact: marine protection and fair jobs in coastal regions.
5. what exactly does your production look like?
We produce in WFTO-certified workshops in Cambodia and in modern recycling plants in China.
Our partners in China are SEDEX and BSCI-certified, so that technical quality and social responsibility go hand in hand.
6 What does social inclusion mean to you in concrete terms?
In our workshops in Cambodia, the proportion of employees with disabilities is over 60 percent.
In Germany, we work closely with Lebenshilfe Remscheid.
For us, inclusion means putting people at the center – not at the margins.
7. why don’t people know you yet, even though you’ve achieved so much?
Because we prefer to work rather than advertise. Over 550,000 products sold, 17 years of development work, cooperations with dm, concept stores, owner-managed fashion and gift retailers – but never loudly.
Now is the time to tell our story.
8 What does it mean to be a partner of the UN Ocean Decade?
The UN Ocean Decade brings together global initiatives to protect the oceans. As an official partner, we are making a measurable contribution against plastic pollution – through upcycling, education and partnerships.
9 What is the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty – and what do you do?
The core objective of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty is a legally binding UN agreement that effectively curbs plastic pollution along the entire life cycle.
We are an official endorser of this global initiative – together with Unilever, Nestlé, LEGO and Mars.
As an independent brand, we bring the credible voice of the pioneers to the table – loud, passionate, solution-oriented.
10. what does the color orange mean in the area of sustainable bags & Backpacks?
Orange stands for change, energy and hope.
It is reminiscent of sunsets over the sea – and of the power that arises when people take responsibility together.
Orange is our attitude – made visible.
11. what does the Beadbags logo actually mean?
The logo shows the silhouette of an old family photo: Stefan’s uncle with his best friend – taken after the Second World War, during their bricklaying apprenticeship in Cuxhaven.
Her mischievous smile symbolizes origin, craftsmanship and confidence. Our logo stands for cohesion – just like in a family.
12 Why do you also produce in China?
China is a technology leader in the recycling sector. In the past, plastic waste was exported there from all over the world – resulting in decades of expertise.
Our partners are SEDEX and BSCI-certified and process oceanbound plastic with the utmost precision – under fair conditions.
13. what materials do you actually use?
We use recycled feed sacks and cement bags from Cambodia, oceanbound plastic from Thailand, PET from recycling processes and salvaged container tension belts from Remondis.
All handcrafted – with maximum impact.
14 Who are your biggest trading partners?
We work with over 600 retailers – including dm Drogeriemarkt with over 2,100 stores, concept stores, sustainable online stores and many committed retailers.
They all appreciate our reliability and our uncompromising attitude.
15 Can I trust you?
Yes – because we work transparently. We show you our supply chain, our partners and our history.
We are independent, value-based and have been delivering what we promise since 2007 – day after day, backpack after backpack.
16. who sews your bags in Cambodia?
The majority of our bags are made in two small factories in Cambodia – one of the poorest countries in the world. Many of the 600 or so seamstresses are people with disabilities or survivors of landmine accidents.
They receive training and a fair chance to build a self-determined life – for themselves and their families.
We know many of them personally and have been working closely with them for over ten years. Every bag stands for genuine participation – and leaves a positive impact.
Mehr Freiheit. Weniger Chaos.
Mit Herz für Menschen, Upcycling & Gewässerschutz.
